Florida Spring Training: Your Guide To Touring The Grapefruit League
Five Great Spring Training Trips: Itinerary Five
The East Coast

A baseball trip down Florida’s east coast provides the traveler with the best mix of all that Florida has to offer. This trip takes you to four ballparks, two of them historic, one a newer, yet fan-friendly stadium, and one that tries too much to be a Major League clone. You’ll get to watch the stars warm up and stand next to some of today’s top players. Along the way, you’ll experience two charming small coastal towns, Vero Beach and Port St. Lucie, where life is a little slower and the people relaxed, and two of Florida’s largest cities, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, with their multimillion dollar beach houses and hectic pace. The two types of cities contrast nearly as much as the baseball stadiums in their shadows.

This is the tour of the stars, where you never know whom you’ll run into and what diamond experiences will become lifelong memories.

Flexibility: While you can easily switch days four and five, it will be hard to switch any other days without spending most of your non-ballpark time on the road. So again, check the game schedules when they come out in mid December and plan your trip accordingly.

You’ll fly in and out of Palm Beach International Airport on this itinerary, because it is midway between Vero Beach and Fort Lauderdale, your most northerly and southerly destinations.

Tip: Get tickets early for Fort Lauderdale Stadium (Baltimore Orioles). You don’t want to miss the box seats there; they are the most comfortable seats in the Grapefruit League. You will also want to get tickets early for Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, especially if the St. Louis Cardinals are scheduled to play on the day of your visit. And, if you want to spend your first night at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, as I recommend, book it early.

Note: You may want to bring along your passport or a certified copy of your birth certificate in case you decide to visit the Bahamas on Day Four.
