Florida Spring Training: Your Guide To Touring The Grapefruit League |
It’s easier to get autographs from visitors than from Nationals. Simply leave the game a couple of innings early and walk to the right of the entrance bridge. You will see a roped-off sidewalk that leads to a bus. All of the visiting team will walk along the rope line. The first players out will usually stop and sign. The slow pokes will rush past you so as not to hold up the bus. If you want Nationals’ autographs, get to the game when the gates open at 11:30 a.m. and position yourself to catch some of the players as they walk from the practice field to the stadium. They have to walk about the length of a football field, giving you plenty of opportunity. Of course, you are at their mercy. Some run quickly past, while others sign as they walk. Once inside the stadium, there aren’t many opportunities. The best place to try is a section next to the first base dugout that was originally built for news photographers. It is down a few stairs, making it the only place in the stadium where you are on the same level as the playing field. Some of the players will come over to sign if you call to them. Note: This area closes about 20 minutes before gametime, again right as one of the prime autograph times starts. Didn't find what you were looking for? Try a Google search.
