Florida Spring Training: Your Guide To Touring The Grapefruit League |
The program here is probably the best investment of any in the Grapefruit League. It has just about anything you could want. There are plenty of statistics for the die-hard baseball fan, yet enough interesting articles about the team and the area to keep non-fans happy. There are mug shots of every player. There are instructions on how to keep score (some of the best you’ll find anywhere, although they are not on the page with the scorecard). For Twins fans, there is plenty of copy about the farm teams and their promising minor league players, along with Twins trivia and a crossword puzzle that is mostly devoted to Twins trivia. In addition, there is a list of advertisers. If you are looking for restaurants or other attractions in the area, that comes in handy because you can scan the list of ads and find a restaurant or an activity you may want to try. What I liked best about the program were the articles about the area’s history with Spring Training. There were sections devoted to Spring Training records, both team and individual, as well as a great article on Fort Myers’ long history with baseball. The program does have a few flaws. There is no numerical listing of the 40-man roster, only an alphabetical one, and the player profiles are scattered throughout the book. That makes individual profiles a bit harder to find than they would be if they were all in one place. In addition, while there is a list of upcoming promotions at the stadium — and written directions to find restrooms, concessions, and novelties — there is no stadium diagram to be found. But those are small flaws considering all the things this program does right and its modest price. Cost: $3 Didn't find what you were looking for? Try a Google search.
