Florida Spring Training: Your Guide To Touring The Grapefruit League |
This is autograph city for those who can’t wait to get their favorite player’s signature. The easiest way to get an autograph is to get to the stadium early and wait outside. Across the parking lot from the main entrance is a bridge that connects the practice fields to the stadium. Every player, both Dodger and visitor, has to walk or ride a golf cart across that bridge to get to the stadium. Players are usually quite willing to sign if you are willing to walk with them.
That’s not the only way to get an autograph here. You can get them near third base right before the game. After warm-ups, players are willing to sign as they walk to their bench. It’s just a matter of asking them politely. Star shortstop Nomar Garciaparra , for instance, repeats the same procedure before every game. He does his warm-ups, kneels for a five-minute prayer, and then walks over to sign autographs. Wait until after he is finished praying to ask. Finally, as the game winds down, situate yourself as far down the first base line as you can get. Most players will walk down the first base wall and sign for you. I got nearly every player I wanted to sign a baseball. In one of the stranger sights of my visit to Holman, All-Star outfielder Shawn Green came out in a golf cart during a rain delay and signed autographs. It was just one more example of the wonderful spirit of Holman Stadium and the way the Dodgers appreciate their fans. Didn't find what you were looking for? Try a Google search.
