Florida Spring Training: Your Guide To Touring The Grapefruit League
Florida Marlins / St. Louis Cardinals: Autographs

Autographs are not that easy to get here thanks to the layout of the stadium. It’s not impossible to get them, but it’s not so easy. You have to be willing to fight the crowds.

Bear in mind that the Cardinals’ clubhouse is on the right side of the field and the Marlins’ on the left. The best place to get Cardinals’ autographs is the berm, and the number one spot is at the front of the berm. During the game, pitchers and catchers sit about a foot away from the berm. Between innings, they are more than willing to sign.

The second best place for Cardinal autographs is the right front corner of the berm as you face the field. Roger Dean Stadium is constructed so that the foul lines are away from the first base side for most of the distance. However, the berm juts toward the foul lines and every player must pass it before entering the clubhouse. Many players stop to sign here, so the people on the berm get the most autographs.

If you’re seated elsewhere, a possibility is to hang out by the dugout before the game. The players are less willing to sign there than they are by the berm. But this is where Lou Brock signed my ball. You can also wait at the end of the seating aisle on the first base side. The gate leading to the clubhouse is right there and players will sometimes let you throw an item down for them to sign. It is about a 20-foot drop.

On the Marlins side, standing along the fence by the bleachers is a great place to get autographs. Other possibilities are near the dugout before the game and the end of the seating aisle on the third base side at anytime.
