Florida Spring Training: Your Guide To Touring The Grapefruit League |
Because of the long baseball tradition in the area, going to a Lakeland game is an experience. Remember, the Tigers have been playing here since 1934, making them more connected to their host area than any other team in the Grapefruit League. It’s hard to tell that from looking at the ballpark, however. Joker Marchant Stadium was built in the mid 1960s and, thanks to the 2002 renovation, it looks like any of the other modern stadiums in the Grapefruit League, albeit better. There are some contests during the game, but nothing memorable. In fact, the most memorable happening at one game I attended involved some fans. Five teenagers with KENNY painted on their chests cheered for outfielder Kenny Lofton. It was one of the most entertaining sights of the spring. Didn't find what you were looking for?
