This is one of those parks where ticket availability depends on whether the Red Sox will be in town when you want to go. If so, plan to get your tickets as early as possible — say, when they go on sale in early January — because the game will probably sell out. Remember, the Red Sox practiced in Winter Haven for 27 years. There are still a tremendous number of Red Sox fans in the area. Games against the Yankees also tend to sell out.
You will be able to get tickets for just about any other game, however, as the park is rarely full. For instance, I attended the last home game one season, which was also the season’s only night game. Both factors should have driven up attendance. But I called two days before the game and got a first row ticket directly behind home plate. I was literally three feet from the on-deck circle. On average, the stadium was just 70 percent full, in part because the outfield berm and bleachers give this antique stadium a lot more seating than you’d expect. A word of warning about the VIP Box Seats: They are along the outfield wall. While you are closer to the field in these seats than you are in the Lower Box Seats, the VIP seats are folding chairs and you’re cramped into a relatively small section. In my opinion, a Lower Box Seat, which is $8 cheaper, is the better way to go. It’s not only less expensive, it’s more comfortable.
