Florida Spring Training: Your Guide To Touring The Grapefruit League |
You’re going to be hard pressed to get an autograph here. Why the problem? To start, the stadium closes all the walkways to the box seats about 30 minutes before gametime. Only ticket holders for that section can go down to the field. Then they close the aisles when the Reds enter the field to warm up. In most ballparks, this is the prime place to get autographs. The only way to avoid being shut out is to buy a box seat near the first base dugout. It’s the one way you’re going to get close to the players.
Catching players as they head back to the clubhouse after they finish playing is usually another good way to get autographs. Unfortunately, as I’ve already mentioned, Ed Smith Stadium was designed to allow the players to avoid autograph seekers, because they don’t have to walk close to the stands. Finally, for some unknown reason, the Reds seem to go out of their way to avoid autograph seekers. Ken Griffey Jr. is notorious for not signing autographs and the rest of the players seem to follow his lead. Didn't find what you were looking for? Try a Google search.
