Florida Spring Training: Your Guide To Touring The Grapefruit League |
This is one place where it doesn’t do any good to get to the game two hours early for autographs. The Red Sox won’t sign until 20 minutes before the game. Some will also sign after they are done playing.
Like many of the newer ballparks, City of Palms protects the players from autograph seekers because they enter the clubhouse from the dugout. But, unlike the players at many of those other Spring Training sites, the Red Sox go out of their way to sign autographs. The best bet to get a superstar’s autograph before the game is to wait about midway down the third base line. About 40 minutes before the game, the players come out to start warming up. About 20 minutes later, most of the players will walk over to the stands at a point about midway down the third base line and sign balls. Later on, the place to get autographs is at the end of the third base line. After the stars are done playing, some will run the outfield wall, allowing for three prime areas to target: the grandstands at the end of the third base line, the chain link gate at the end of the main seating walkway, and beside the end of the upper grandstands. Some players will walk to the grandstands at the end of the third base line to sign. Others will stop at a chain link gate, which is down about six stairs from the main seating walkway, but is easily accessed. Finally, there is a bridge beside the end of the upper grandstands that every player must walk under to get to his car. Some will stop and sign, others won’t. Didn't find what you were looking for?
