Type: Huge alligators in huge observation area
Time: As long as you wish
Kelly says: Rewards patient viewing
This is the huge lake that lies right next to the Gift Shop and park entrance. The place is home to Gatorland’s largest specimens, giant 12-footers who are truly awesome, whether in catatonic repose in the sun or cruising ominously through the murky waters.
Other than feeding them (below), there’s not much to do here except watch. At first it will seem that there’s nothing much going on. It may even seem that some of these critters are statues. But your patience will be rewarded. As you continue looking you will be able to sort the alligators from the crocodiles and start to notice those nicely camouflaged gators lurking in the shadows or lying submerged and motionless.
Photo Ops: If you’ve got a video camera try for a shot of a white heron hitching a ride on the back of a floating gator. Also, look for a large plaster model of an alligator on the boardwalk; it makes a good prop for a photo of your fearless kids.
