Cypress Gardens: Splash Island

Rating: * * *
Type: Mini water park
Time: As much as you want
Kelly says: A nice addition

With just two “rides” Splash Island hardly qualifies as a full-fledged water park, but it is a thoughtful addition to the park for those looking for a break from the summer heat.

Circling the area is Paradise River, where you can grab an inner tube ($4) and take a lazy float. Another great way to relax is to sun yourself on the shores of Kowabunga Bay, a medium-sized wave pool. For active kids, there is Polynesian Adventure, a colorful, multi-level, water-soaked play area that is the best thing at Splash Island. At its apex, a huge bucket in the shape of a tiki god fills with water and periodically tips over, much to the delight of the kids below.

Voodoo Plunge consists of three speed slides. Two are fairly straightforward, but the third is a completely enclosed tube with a zippy corkscrew near the top. Next door is Tonga Tubes, where you grab your own inner tube and climb to the top to descend through one of two twisting flumes, with both open and enclosed sections, to a splashdown in a small pool.
