On summer weekends, when the park is open late, Cypress Gardens adds an additional ski show just after dark. It contains many of the same elements as the daytime show, minus the comedy, but this time the tow boats are outlined in tiny lights and the skiers are picked out by giant spotlights as they zip across the lake’s surface, their flips and stunts punctuated by bursts of fireworks shot from a platform in the lake.
Stunts that looked pretty nifty in the bright sunlight seem almost magical at night, with the skiers’ colorful costumes glowing in the bright spotlights. The hang glider is there, too, this time with fireworks streamers marking his descent to a perfect lakeside touchdown.
The show ends with a razzle-dazzle fireworks display to the accompaniment of rousing music. Sometimes Nature decides to become part of the show, with spectacular thunderstorms lighting up the far horizon. On such a night, this is the best show in Florida.
