Resort Hotels: The Marriott Connection - Timeshare Resorts

These properties were designed for the vacation ownership market and many of the units in them are occupied by owners. However, a number of units are always available for vacation rentals. These resorts work best for families, who can take advantage of the extra space and fully equipped kitchens to cook at least some of their meals “at home” during their vacation. Even better, the rates are very comparable to those at nicer hotels in the area.

Marriott’s Grande Vista

This property, which is arguably the best of the timeshare properties near SeaWorld, was reviewed earlier in this chapter.

Marriott’s Cypress Harbour
11251 Harbour Villa Road
Orlando, FL 32821
(407) 238-1300 (407) 238-1083 fax

All of the “villas” at this property are two-bedroom units, with a screened porch or balcony and interior decor on a par with that found at the Grande Vista. The three- and four-story buildings are set in beautifully manicured grounds dotted with ponds and surrounding the Grande Pines golf course. There are two large adult pools and a smaller children’s pool.

Price Range: $$$$

Amenities: Full kitchens with granite countertops, all utensils, business center, high-speed Internet, on-site dining including Starbucks and Edy’s, barbecue facilities, game room, sauna, biking and jogging trails, sauna, smoke-free policy, concierge desk.

Distance to SeaWorld: 0.9 miles

Horizons by Marriott Vacation Club
7102 Grand Horizons Boulevard
Orlando, FL 32821
(407) 465-6000 (407) 465-6267 fax

Horizons is a separate brand within the Marriott family — its official name is Horizons at Orlando by Marriott Vacation Club — and it represents the “quality tier” of vacation ownership as opposed to the “moderate tier” represented by Cypress Harbour and Grande Vista. Translated from brand-speak, that means it costs a bit less. Even so, its pirate ship themed kids’ pool is one of the coolest amenities at any of the resorts reviewed here and makes this an obvious choice for families with younger kids. Just across the street from Cypress Harbour, it features hotel-like guest rooms as well as one- and two-bedroom villas.

Price Range: $$ - $$$$

Amenities: Full kitchens with utensils, DVD players, screened balcony, on-property restaurant, the HarborSide Bar & Grill, pirate-themed activity program for kids, smoke-free policy.

Distance to SeaWorld: .9 miles

Marriott’s Royal Palms
8404 Vacation Way
Orlando, FL 32821
(407) 238-6200 (407) 238-6247 fax

This is one of two timeshare properties that flank the Marriott World Center hotel; Sabal Palms, below, is the other. Both of them offer only two-bedroom units that sleep up to six people. Thanks to their proximity to the Marriott World Center Hotel, both resorts have access to some very nice dining options. And given their proximity to Disney World, they make a good choice for families who plan to visit there.

Price Range: $$$$

Amenities: High speed Internet, one large swimming pool, tennis and volleyball, hiking and biking, fitness center, concierge desk, access to various amenities at the adjacent World Center Hotel including their spa and fitness center.

Distance to SeaWorld: 6 miles

Marriott’s Sabal Palms
8805 World Center Drive
Orlando, FL 32821
(407) 238-6200 (407) 238-6219 fax

Sabal Palms is somewhat smaller than Royal Palms and the buildings here are four floors instead of two, but otherwise there is little to distinguish the two resorts.

Price Range: $$$$

Amenities: Amenities are similar, if not precisely the same, as those at Royal Palms.

Distance to SeaWorld: 6 miles
