The Peabody is located on International Drive, eight-tenths of a mile north of the Bee Line Expressway and directly across from the Orlando Convention Center, all three million square feet of it, making it the location of choice if you are combining your Orlando trip with one of the many trade shows that unfold there. It is also just a short drive from SeaWorld. In fact, you can see SeaWorld’s Sky Tower from the rooms facing the Convention Center.
To the north lies the gaudy tourist strip that is International Drive. Within walking distance you will find the Pointe*Orlando shopping center, with a passel of restaurants for every taste and wallet, a posh multiplex cinema with an IMAX screen, and WonderWorks, a science-museum-like interactive attraction.
The hotel’s main entrance lies under a massive portico, punctuated with bubbling fountains and tiered waterfalls, a fitting prelude to the stylish lobby inside, where yet more fountains and waterfalls await. As you enter, the reception area, concierge desk, and the hotel’s few shops are to your left or the north end of the hotel; dining is to your right at the south end of the building; and the soaring atrium lobby, which is home to the famous Peabody ducks, is straight ahead. The convention and meeting rooms are just past the lobby and down a flight of stairs. The hotel lobby is a popular meeting area that seems to bustle at all times of the day, never more so than when the ducks make their entrance and exit.
Once inside, there’s really no reason to leave, except to go to the theme parks or head out to the golf course. All of the hotel amenities are “inside” the hotel. On the Recreation Level, two stories above the lobby, you will find a large pool with generous sunning areas atop the portico in front of the hotel; the tennis courts are over the convention and meeting facilities at the back.
