There are vague echoes of Harry’s Bar in Venice here, but Portofino’s Bar American is very much its own room and in the fine tradition of upscale hotel bars where patrons signal their status in life by swirling $150 snifters of fine brandy.
Luckily you can enjoy a drink and the refined atmosphere for less than that. Specialty cocktails are in the $11 range, with appetizers like smoked salmon, shrimp cocktails, and flatbread pizzas available for under $16. Desserts are also served. Other specialties here include single malt scotch ($12 to $20), grappa, an Italian fortified wine ($25), and the aforementioned cognacs ($16 to $150).
