The year is sprinkled with special events tied to the holiday calendar. For Halloween, that means two admissions to the park, one for a regular daytime visit and another for the evening’s special event. Daytime visitors can get a discounted admission for the evening’s festivities, but this will still boost the cost of a full day by nearly $70. The other events are included in the regular admission price.
Fourth of July. Islands of Adventure celebrates America’s birthday with a burst of patriotic fervor. Often, fireworks displays continue nightly through the entire month of July and sometimes into August.
Halloween Horror Nights. From fairly modest beginnings, Universal Orlando’s nighttime Halloween celebration has grown into the most elaborate and hyped special event of the year. This is not to everyone’s taste but the spooky-funny atmosphere in the park is infectious, with goblins and ghouls leaping out at visitors. Special walk-through attractions are created just for this event, featuring haunted mazes — dark, narrow passages with “scary” surprises around every corner — and tableaux vivants based on horror movie themes. This has become an extremely popular event and each year Universal tries to top last year’s show. The show now runs from late September to early November. The separate evening admission for this one can be quite pricey, but annual passholders and Florida residents get a break. Grinchmas.
December sees Seuss Landing transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with a mini ice slide and an up close and personal encounter with the Grinch himself, who proves to be a delightful (if parentally incorrect) host.
