Islands of Adventure - Toon Lagoon: And All the Rest

There are regular Character Meet and Greet sessions in Toon Lagoon, either along Comic Strip Lane or in front of the Pandemonium amphitheater. The characters, naturally, are your funny paper favorites like Popeye and Olive Oyl, Beetle Bailey, and Woody Woodpecker. During busier periods, these events may be called out on the Adventure Guide map.

Toon Lagoon’s Comic Strip Lane offers some terrific photo ops. There are cut-outs that put you in the comic strip and many of the palm trees are mounted with comic strip speech balloons. You pose underneath and get a nice shot of you saying things like, “It must be Sunday…We’re in color!” or “Don’t have the mushroom pizza before you ride Ripsaw Falls.”

My favorite is a trick photo involving Marmaduke, that playful Great Dane. You’ll find it on the facade of Blondie’s restaurant (see below) and a nearby sign tells you exactly how to set up the shot.

If you turn to the right at Me Ship, The Olive and follow the path over the raging rapids of the Bilge-Rat Barges ride, you’ll find yourself in a delightful snarl of walkways along the Great Inland Sea, another of the park’s wonderful get-away-from-it-all spots.

The plaza in front of the Pandemonium amphitheater is the venue for occasional street shows that often involve audience participation and appearances by cartoon characters. One recent show featured the Outer Toons, a zany bunch of costumed musicians who lead singalongs and “name that tune” contests featuring songs from television cartoon shows. The area from the plaza to the entrance to Marvel Super Hero Island is sometimes home to a collection of so-called Games of Skill.
