What:
Multicultural cafeteria
Where: On Comic Strip Lane
Price Range: $
This large, loud, and boisterous space houses four separate fast food counters arranged in a row along the back wall. Reading from left to right they are Fish, Chips & Chicken; Chinese; Burgers & Dogs; and Pizza & Pasta.
All of them have about three or four entrees in the $7 to $9 range. The selections are not terribly imaginative and are about what you would expect for their genres.
They won’t win any awards from the healthy eating crowd either. About the healthiest meal you’ll find here is a chicken Caesar salad ($8). Desserts ($2) are the same at every stand and usually include chocolate cake and Jello. If everyone in your party can’t agree on a cuisine, be prepared to stand in several lines; each counter has a separate line and cashier. And not every stand is open at any given time.
The room itself is bright and garish in a self-consciously postmodern way. The high ceiling, with its exposed air-conditioning ducts and pipes, is painted a matte black, but the walls are brightly striped and covered with blown-up panels and cutouts from a variety of Sunday funnies comic strips, providing a bit of light reading for those dining alone. There’s plenty of table and booth seating indoors and a fair amount of al fresco seating as well.
