What:
Ice-cream parlor
Where: In the middle of Hollywood Boulevard
Price Range: $
Schwab’s is famous in Hollywood lore as the place where a sharp-eyed talent scout discovered a sweater-clad, teenaged Lana Turner sipping soda at the counter. At Universal Studios, Schwab’s lends its name to a small, black-and-white tiled, vaguely forties-ish ice-cream parlor featuring cones, milk shakes, sundaes, and ice cream floats for $4 or $5. Double scoop sundaes and banana splits cost a bit more. Although there are a few tables, Schwab’s is primarily aimed at those looking for a quick take out snack.
In keeping with its namesake’s primary business, Schwab’s also has a small supply of over-the-counter headache and heartburn remedies, but keeps them under the counter, so ask. For those intent on spending the whole day riding Jimmy Neutron, Schwab’s very thoughtfully provides Pepto-Bismol.
