Universal Studios Florida - Good Things To Know About...

Here are some notes that apply specifically to Universal Studios Florida. General notes that apply to both parks will be found in Chapter One.

First Aid

There is a first aid station on Canal Street, across from Beetlejuice’s Graveyard Revue and just beside Louie’s Italian Restaurant. You’ll also find help at Family & Health Services on the Front Lot.

Getting Wet

The Curious George play area in Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone is straight out of a water park, and kids who visit there will not be able to resist the temptation to get absolutely drenched. Parents should plan accordingly, especially on cooler days when a wet child could catch a chill. So bring a towel and a change of clothes.

Height Restrictions and Other Warnings

Due to a variety of considerations, such as sudden movements and the configuration of lap restraints, a few rides will be off-limits to shorter (typically younger) guests. The following rides have minimum height requirements:

  • Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster: 36 in. (91.4 cm.)
  • Jimmy Neutron: 40 in. (101.6 cm.) (Stationary seating is provided for shorter kids.)
  • Men In Black: 42 in. (106.7 cm.)
  • Revenge of the Mummy: 48 in. (121.9 cm.)

In addition, any child under 48 inches must be accompanied by an adult on all these rides (except the Mummy, which they can’t ride at all) and must be able to sit upright without help.

PG-13 Ratings

Universal urges “parental discretion” for kids under 13 on the following rides and attractions:

  • Beetlejuice’s Graveyard Revue
  • Terminator 2: 3-D
  • Twister
  • Universal Horror Make-Up Show

In addition, Jaws may be too intense for very small children. Most parents seem to ignore the warnings. In this day and age (sadly, perhaps), it’s hard to imagine a child being shocked by anything.

Reservations

Both Lombard’s Seafood Grille and Finnegan’s accept dining reservations. They are highly recommended at any time and especially if you are visiting during the busy season, although a reservation is not an absolute guarantee of avoiding a short wait. You can make your reservations first thing in the morning when you arrive or by phone up to 24 hours in advance. The number to call is (407) 224-3613.

Single-Rider Lines

To help shrink long lines, E.T. Adventure opens a single-rider line when things get busy. Men In Black and Revenge of the Mummy have a single-rider line open all the time. Ride attendants have a great deal of say as to whether a single riders line is called for, so you can’t always count on this option.

Special Diets

Lombard’s Seafood Grille and Finnegan’s can provide kosher meals with 48 hours advance notice. Call Food Services at (407) 363-8340 to make arrangements. The Studio Guide brochure’s list of dining spots calls out restaurants offering vegetarian meals and “healthy choices.” In addition, Lombard’s offers a nice selection of light seafood entrees and salads.

If you’re trying to stick to a low-fat regimen, lotsa luck. Sticking with salads and fruit plates is probably the best strategy. Lombard’s has a nice selection of seafood and salads.
