“Captain Bruce” runs this low key operation offering private airboat tours of the extensive St. John’s River ecosystem near Christmas, to the east of Orlando. The 90-minute tours are by reservation only. They offer a close-up look at alligators, bald eagles (September through May), and other denizens of this starkly beautiful landscape.
You can take a trip in the middle of the night if you wish, but you are better advised to consult with Captain Bruce on the best time to go to see what you want to see. There are two six-passenger airboats, but if you have a large group, Captain Bruce can round up enough boats to accommodate 30 people. There is a minimum per boatload, which means that if only two people go they will be charged a premium.
