If you’re making the pilgrimage to Lakeland to see the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings at Florida Southern College, it’s worth taking a bit more time to visit this small museum. Housed in a handsome modern building with marble floors and high ceilings, the museum is notable primarily for the Taxdal Pre-Columbian Gallery, an impressive collection of ceramics from ancient American cultures ranging from Mexico to Peru. Otherwise, the museum presents rotating exhibits, some from the permanent collection, some on loan. All eras are represented, but the emphasis seems to be on contemporary art. The museum also showcases art by local students, from kindergarten through high school. Some of it is remarkably sophisticated.
Nearby: Fantasy of Flight, Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings, Water Ski Experience.
