The charming brick 1926 Fire Station #3 has been lovingly moved to this secluded location behind the Orlando Shakespeare Festival in Loch Haven Park. Here fire buffs can enthuse over meticulously restored fire engines, including a 1911 horse-drawn steam pumper, a 1915 LaFrance Fire Engine, and a 1919 LaFrance Ladder Truck. Photos and documents arranged chronologically around the walls document the department’s proud history. Upstairs, in a room used for fire department training, are displays of fire fighters’ gear, from dress uniforms to bomb suits, and a memorial to those who have sacrificed their lives in service to the community.
You have to pass through the lobby of the Orlando Shakespeare Festival to reach the museum, tucked away in a quiet courtyard, but it’s worth seeking out.
Nearby: Leu Gardens, Mennello Museum of Art, Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando Science Center.
