The University of Central Florida has a quite extensive “collection” of trees and other flora, and it is displayed in this tranquil oasis in the midst of its ultramodern campus on the eastern fringes of Orlando. The emphasis is on Florida species but the collection ranges far and wide. A maze of nature trails takes the visitor through a number of plant “communities,” including oak hammock, cabbage palm, and pond pine. Informative signage identifies individual species and, when appropriate, gives tips to gardeners. Best of all, secluded tables and benches, some with thatched shelters offer quiet spots for contemplation or study.
Nearby: Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge.
