Orlando's not a one-mouse town and this is the site that proves it! |
Enchanted Forest Sanctuary Admission: Free The Environmentally Endangered Lands Program of Brevard County has created this picture perfect learning vehicle to teach people about the unique and subtle topography of coastal Florida. There are attempts to do this in other parks around the region, but none that I’ve seen do it as well as the Enchanted Forest. Some 3.7 miles of self-guided trails through a portion of this 393-acre preserve take the visitor through six distinct environments, from scruffy, sandy scrub ridges to lush tropical forests that seem, well, enchanted. You can use the laminated trail guides to educate yourself to what you’re seeing or just use the beautifully maintained trails for rest, relaxation, or exercise. A small interpretive center offers cleverly designed exhibits that further explain the surprising way in which a few feet of elevation in the Florida ecosystem can mean a startlingly different plant environment. There’s also a gift shop. Nearby: Police Hall of Fame, Kennedy Space Center, Warbird Air Museum. Didn't find what you were looking for? Try a Google search.
