Hang gliding was invented in Australia, which may be why you hear so much Aussie slang among Orlando-area hang gliding enthusiasts. There are two hang gliding venues to Orlando’s south and west. Both have an appealing, low-key, good-vibes atmosphere and, thanks to tandem (two-person) gliders, both are well equipped to introduce the novice to this exciting experience.
A word of warning: hang gliding can induce motion sickness, especially when the air is choppy. An experienced pilot goes aloft with you and keeps you safe, but you can do much of the actual flying if you wish. Flights last about 20 minutes, 10 up and 10 down. Experienced hang gliders can sharpen their skills and rent gliders if they haven’t brought their own.
