Type: Suspended gondola ride
Time: 5 minutes
Kelly says: Shortcut with a view
If you’ve been on the sky ride at Disney World, you know what this one’s all about. This isn’t intended as a tour of the Serengeti Plain, although it does pass over Edge of Africa and Rhino Rally and offers a glimpse of the plains animals in the distance. Rather, this is a one-way shortcut from Crown Colony to the Congo, or vice versa.
Your vehicle is a small four-seat gondola suspended from an overhead cable. You can board at either end, but you cannot stay aboard for a roundtrip. The ride dips down for a dog-leg left turn at a checkpoint on the northern end of the Serengeti. This is not a disembarkation point but is used primarily to adjust the spacing between gondolas to assure a smooth arrival.
You can get good views of the Serengeti on this ride, although most people will take the opportunity to check out the action on Montu and Kumba or perhaps to spot the towers of Adventure Island, Busch Gardens’ water park, down the road.
