Busch Gardens Africa - Land of the Dragons: Lory Landing

Rating: * * * +
Type: Walk-through animal exhibit
Time: As long as you’d like
Kelly says: Close encounters with inquisitive charmers

Lorys and lorikeets are the main attraction in this aviary within an aviary. About halfway between parakeets and parrots in size, lorys are as curious as they are colorful. As you walk through their jungle-themed aviary, they are likely to land on your head, shoulder, or arm to check out your shiny jewelry or angle for a handout. Busch Gardens encourages this by selling “lory nectar” ($3) just in case you forgot to bring your own.

This is great fun for kids (grown-ups, too!) and well worth a visit. In the antechamber to the lorys’ digs are large cages displaying their larger cousins — cockatoos, macaws, and the like.
