Type: Indoor theater show
Time: About 40 minutes
Kelly says: Simply marvelous and not to be missed
The 1,200-seat Moroccan Palace Theater is an extremely well-appointed performance space capable of Broadway-quality spectacle. Busch Gardens has risen to the challenge with KaTonga, a dazzling musical extravaganza that sets a new (and very high) standard for theme park entertainment.
“KaTonga” is apparently an African word for “a special place where tales are told,” or something along those lines. A quartet of master storytellers from across Africa are gathered for a sort of competition and the tales they tell are brought magically to life by a troupe of multi-talented dancers, puppeteers, and acrobats from around the world. The morals to these stories teach timeless truths: strive to be the best, know yourself, seek out love, and above all, celebrate life.
Too often, in shows of this type, everything’s a mishmash of clashing motifs and styles. But here, the music, singing, costumes, lighting, puppets, choreography, and special effects come together beautifully to create a unified artistic vision. All in all, this is the best theatrical theme park show in all of Central Florida and I include the shows at Walt Disney World in that reckoning. Don’t miss it.
