The newest “themed area” at Busch Gardens Africa ditches the geographic metaphors used in most of the park. Jungala is a made-up word designed, I suspect, to suggest this section’s blend of spectacular animal habitats and fun activities for kids. Besides, it is home to animals that are not native to Africa but to India and Southeast Asia. And what animals they are! Tigers and orangutans are some of the most fascinating animals on display at the park. Of course, they are also some of the least active, so what you actually get to see is somewhat “luck of the draw.” If you have the luxury of time, repeat visits will be rewarded.
If Land of the Dragons is for preschoolers, Jungala is for tweens, that “awkward” age, roughly eight to thirteen, between child and teenager. Some of the non-animal attractions here have been specifically designed for that age group, with others thoughtfully excluded.
