Kelly says: A treat for tiger fanciers
Claw Island is the Hollywood-ish name for an intriguing habitat housing some of Busch Gardens’ most beautiful residents. Here, in a deep pit, on a small, green, palm-dotted island, you’ll find five magnificent Bengal tigers. One bears the tawny coat we are all familiar with, three have dark stripes on white coats, and the fifth is completely white. These rare white tigers were prized by Indian royalty, and no wonder. They are truly awe-inspiring.
Claw Island’s pit is surrounded by gazebo viewing areas and a wooden spectator bridge, all of which have heavy rope netting to make doubly sure that no one climbs or falls in. By walking around the perimeter you should be able to get good views of the tigers.
Most of the time, they are just lounging around (these are cats, after all). If you’re lucky enough to chance by at feeding time things can get a bit livelier. Unfortunately, feedings are haphazard, to prevent the animals from becoming habituated. You can ask at the nearby gift shop when feeding time will be, but the information provided is not always accurate.
