Time: Continuous viewing
Kelly says: A lovely place to pause
This is a smallish habitat compared to others in the park, but its size belies its enchantment. Essentially a large tent made of a dark mesh fabric, the aviary lets you visit a wide variety of tropical birds in a remarkably realistic setting, instead of peering at them through the bars of a cage. Benches allow for long and leisurely viewing and a large illustrated guidebook lets you tell one species from another. Some, like the roseate spoonbill, may look familiar but others, like the odd Abdim’s Stork and a beautiful blue Victoria Crowned Pigeon that thinks it’s a peacock, will probably be new to you.
I have discovered that
the longer you sit and relax here, the more the mesh tent fades
from your consciousness. What remains is a charming encounter
with some very lovely birds.
