2009 WDW Trivia Calendar Gets Reviewed

Allen Huffman, of DisneyFans.com, probes, examines, deconstructs, and psychoanalyzes Lou Mongello's 2009 Walt Disney World Calendar in a great podcast that proves that he's the ultimate Disney geek.

Allen calls Lou's page-a-day calendar "a great way to get a daily Disney fix" and "something every fan should have." And he really liked the flip animation.

Lou Mongello's 2009 Walt Disney World Trivia Calendar is brand new and is currently being offered at a discount.

Parks Face Fay

Here's the skinny on how the theme parks are dealing with the arrival of Tropical Storm Fay, the eye which looks like it will pass just to the southeast of Orlando.

Cypress Gardens is closing. They've had especially bad luck with hurricanes in the past, so this announcement comes as no surprise.

Disney opened early today with no plans to close when Fay hits. The idea is to give folks more of a chance to enjoy the parks before the weather gets really bad.

SeaWorld, aside from moving some of its animals indoors for their protection, has announced "business as usual."

Universal said yesterday it had no plans to alter hours, but said that could change as the situation warrants.

The Holy Land Experience is sending a staff member dressed as Moses out into the storm with a staff to part the waters. (Just kidding.)

Potter Preview

Universal Orlando has posted "conceptual art" that gives an idea of what The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will look like.

The "owl's eye view" suggests that the entrance will be about where Sinbad's village is now.

Love the cursor!

Enchanted Oak Disappears

I kept hoping that Universal would leave the Enchanted Oak Tavern building pretty much as is and simple "re-theme" it. Alas, it is not to be. The entire building has been razed to make way for . . . what?

Orlando Attractions Magazine
has the photographic evidence.

More Busch Sales Rumors

From the Telegraph (UK):
Blackstone, the American investment firm, which is a major shareholder in Merlin Entertainments Group, is positioning itself for a tilt at the theme parks unit of Anheuser-Busch, the brewing giant which is in the process of being acquired by the Brazilian company InBev. . .

Blackstone, which co-owns Merlin alongside Dubai International Capital, is also an investor in Universal Orlando, another of the US's largest theme parks operators. People close to Blackstone say that if it succeeds with an offer for the Anheuser-Busch parks, it could merge them with either Merlin or Universal, in which NBC Universal, the US media company, is a partner.

This could be interesting. If it's true, that is. And, from what I hear, the takeover won't be completed until late this year or early next. There's also a (slim) possibility that the sale might not go through, due to some unforeseen glitch.
