Mad Cow Takes You on "Bad Dates"
Orlando's Mad Cow Theater Company announces the Central Florida premiere of BAD DATES by playwright Theresa Rebeck - a hilarious, fresh and touching comedy about a woman who wants it all: motherhood, a potent career and a dynamic love life.
BAD DATES details one woman's odyssey to survive her shoe shopping addiction and her man problems. Haley is a single mother with a collection of 500 pairs of shoes, a teenage daughter, a stress-to-make-you-scream job and a crew from the mob as her bosses. What's she missing? - a love life would be nice. So Haley chooses a pair of shoes twice a week and jumps back into the dating pool. Her retelling of her adventures in middle-aged date-land is a laugh-out-loud funny saga taking us from a Buddhist retreat to the Romanian mob and all through Manhattan. With a nod to Sex and the City and Bridget Jones' Diary, this Sweet Charity-like heroine is as endearing as she is hilarious. John Simon of New York Magazine said "You will not want to miss this charming play".
An award-winning playwright, Theresa Rebeck has also written for some of television's most well-known series including, Law and Order, Third Watch and NYPD Blue along with the films Harriet the Spy and Catwoman. Other work for the theatre includes Omnium Gatherum, co-written with Alexandra Gersten-Vassilarous, which recently enjoyed an acclaimed Off-Broadway run, Spike Heels, an adaptation of Eugene Ionesco's Rhinoceros, and The Actress.
BAD DATES will be the 52nd production by the award-winning Mad Cow Theatre, which has never repeated a playwright in its eight-year history. Directed by Dave Russell, the production features Robyn Pedretti as the incurably romantic, shoe-loving Haley. The creative team includes costumes by Nicole Bartet, set design by Jason Young and lighting by Ryan Gravilla.
BAD DATES runs February 2 - 26, 2006 at Mad Cow Theatre, 105 South Magnolia Avenue in downtown Orlando. Tickets can be purchased through the Mad Cow Box Office at 407.297.8788 or online at www.madcowtheatre.com.
